The College of American Pathologists hosted an engaging hybrid media briefing in Chicago with leading pathologists—the physicians who biopsy and diagnose disease. The media briefing took place Tues., Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Eastern, and consisted of four panels with CAP president Donald S. Karcher, MD, FCAP, moderating and participating in each session.

BREAKING BARRIERS IN PATHOLOGY: ADVANCING HEALTHCARE EQUITY FOR TRANSGENDER AND LGBTQI COMMUNITIES
An important discussion on the CAPs ongoing commitment to eliminate health disparities in medicine, especially when it comes to testing; and the importance of knowing whether a person is transgender. How knowing this vital information plays a critical role in receiving the right diagnosis and the best care. Panelists will also address hormones and reference ranges, the tools they need to serve this population and the barriers LGBTQI individuals face in healthcare today, the role of HPV testing, including primary HPV screening and self-sampling, ways to update specimen requisition forms to more appropriately document gender, hormone therapy, and gender affirming surgeries.
