Release Date: 14 Jun 2023
CAP Media Briefing: Pathology and AI

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) hosted a virtual media briefing featuring leading pathologists—the physicians who biopsy and diagnose disease. The media briefing took place Thurs., June 22 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Eastern, and consisted of three panelists with CAP president Emily E. Volk, MD, FCAP

Experts addressed:

  • What exactly is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
  • What is the role of AI in the pathology practice – from testing to diagnosis of disease? Will AI replace pathologists?
  • What does AI mean for community pathologists and possibly rural hospitals?
  • What is the vision ahead given the crowded “noise” around AI right now and especially when it comes to pathology?
