
Amy Karger, MD, PhD, FCAP, is a Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Minnesota. She received her MD and PhD degrees from the Mayo Clinic, and completed her residency and fellowship training in clinical pathology and clinical chemistry at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Karger is a recognized leader in the field of laboratory medicine, currently serving in a leadership role with the College of American Pathologists as Vice Chair of the Accuracy-Based Programs Committee. She has also held numerous leadership roles with the Association for Diagnostics and Laboratory Medicine (ADLM), serving on the ADLM Academy Test Utilization and Nominating Committees. She is currently the chair of the 2026 ADLM Annual Meeting Organizing Committee. She also recently served as the President of the board of directors for the American Board of Clinical Chemistry. Dr. Karger has extensive experience directing or co-directing central laboratory testing for large clinical trials and multi-institutional research studies, including the Chronic Kidney Disease Epidemiology Collaboration (CKD-EPI), Preventing Early Renal Loss in Diabetes (PERL) study, the DISCOVERY study, and the Epidemiology of Diabetes Interventions and Complications (EDIC) study. At the University of Minnesota, Dr. Karger’s primary clinical duties involve directing the University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital’s clinical laboratories, the biochemical genetics laboratory, and serving as director for point-of-care testing for the MHealth Fairview system.
Dr. Karger can speak on running a clinical laboratory, pediatric laboratory medicine, chronic kidney disease, point of care testing, newborn screening, at-home testing, and diabetes.
