The College of American Pathologists honors Qihui "Jim" Zhai with a Governor of the Board Award at the CAP Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA

New Orleans, LA– At the meeting of the membership of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Qihui “Jim” Zhai, MD, FCAP, was inaugurated as a governor of the board during the CAP annual meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dr. Zhai has served on many CAP committees, councils, and task forces. Most notable, Dr. Zhai has served as the chair of the Investment committee and vice chair of the Council on Accreditation, as well as the Finance committee, and an advisor on the Resident Forum Executive committee.

“My goal is to put members first. We need to synchronize and synergize the efforts between state societies and CAP pathologists from academic and private settings to tackle issues ahead, including the value of our pathologists’ work, lab regulations, scope of practice, and pipelines,” explained Dr. Zhai.  “We need to provide practical and yet updated education and practice guidelines to our practicing pathologists. We must be innovative in laboratory quality programs and expand our international influence. Our members’ well-being is our top priority.”

Dr. Zhai received his medical degree and completed an internship at Shandong University School of Medicine in Jinan, Shandong, China. He completed his residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester and his fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

In addition to the CAP, Dr. Zhai is a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the American Society of Clinical Pathology,the Minnesota Society of Pathologists, the American Medical Association, the Houston Society of Clinical Pathologists, the Harris County Medical Society, International Society of Urologic Pathologists, the Chinese American Pathologists Association, the North America Society of Head and Neck Pathology, the Florida Medical Association, the Genitourinary Pathology Society, and American Board of Pathology..

Currenty, Dr. Zhai is a professor of laboratory medicine and pathology at the College of Medicine Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as well as a consultanting pathologist and director of the Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization Laboratory at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.
