The College of American Pathologists honors Dr. M.E. de Baca with a Governor of the Board Award at the CAP Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA

New Orleans, LA– At the meeting of the membership of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), M.E. (Doc) de Baca, MD, FCAP, was inaugurated as a governor of the board during the CAP annual meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dr. de Baca has served on many CAP committees, councils and task forces. Most notable, as chair of the Council on Education and vice chair of the Artificial Intelligence committee, Information Technology Leadership committee and Online Communications and Collaboration Project Team.

“I am thrilled the CAP Board has created the Council on Informatics and Pathology Innovation and am proud to have been selected to serve as the first Chair of the new Council,” stated Dr. de Baca. “Pathologists understand that technology is changing our field; with the new Council, the CAP demonstrates its commitment to help members learn about and introduce novel workflows into their practices.”

Dr. de Baca received her medical degree at Universidad del Salvador, Buenos Aires, Argentina and their ophthalmology residency at Achenbach Hospital, Königs Wusterhausen, and E.-v.-Bergmann Clinic, Potsdam, Federal Republic of Germany. She then transitioned to Texas Tech University before competing her residency in anatomic and clinical pathology, as well as Hematopathology at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia

“Being a leader at CAP brings with it great responsibility,” said Dr. de Baca. “As a CAP Governor, I will work to maximize and support the efforts of our members, emphasize the role of pathologists in the house of medicine, create a stronger practice environment for pathologists, reduce error and risk for patients while implementing new patient services, and increase the financial stability of the CAP, to ensure continued success for subsequent generations of leaders.”

Currently Dr. de Baca is the director of hematopathology at Pacific Pathology Partners in Seattle as well as a member of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, American Society of Hematology, Society for Hematopathology and the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
