The College of American Pathologists honors Dr. Earle "Smitty" Collum with a Governor of the Board Award at the CAP Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA

New Orleans, LA– At the meeting of the membership of the College of American Pathologists (CAP), Earle “Smitty” Collum, MD, FCAP, was inaugurated as a governor of the board during the CAP annual meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Dr. Collum has served on many CAP committees, councils, and task forces. Most notable, Dr. Collum served as chair of the Complaints and Investigations Committee and vice chair of the International Accreditation Committee, as well as being a member of the House of Delegates representing Arizona. 

“With my time on the board, I would like to raise the awareness, both inside and outside the medical field, of the necessary and vital role pathologists play in the care of patients in our communities,” explained Dr. Collum. “In addition, I’d like to strengthen the standing of the College of the American Pathologists domestically and internationally.”

Dr. Collum received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and completed his internship and residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and Medical Center. Currently, Dr. Collum is the medical director, for the Mid-America Division of the Laboratory Corporation of America (Labcorp). He is also the medical director of the Center for Esoteric Testing West, Phoenix and Denver Regional labs at Labcorp. 

In addition to the CAP, Dr. Collum is a member of the California, Texas, Florida, and Arizona Societies of Pathologists. He is also a member of the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies and the American Association for Clinical Chemistry.
