First Hospital Laboratory in Egypt to Achieve CAP Accreditation As Salam International Hospital Maadi Branch

NORTHFIELD, Ill. (October 5, 2023) — The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has awarded accreditation to As-Salam International Hospital’s laboratory in Maadi, Egypt, upon successful completion of their recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Program.

This achievement marks a regional milestone, as As-Salam is the first full hospital laboratory in Egypt to be awarded CAP accreditation. “This milestone stands as a resounding testament to the dedication of our exceptional medical team and our ceaseless pursuit of excellence across all fronts, including accuracy in patient diagnoses, early detection and treatment, as well as enhanced patient care,” explained As-Salam’s Chief Medical Officer Mazen Attia, MD.

“The CAP congratulates As-Salam International Hospital in Maadi on its recent CAP accreditation,” said CAP President Donald S. Karcher, MD, FCAP. “This accreditation solidifies As-Salam's commitment to pathology and pioneering patient care through providing top-tier diagnostic services in Egypt.”

First established in the early 1960s, the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program is designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients. During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory across all disciplines using detailed checklist requirements to ensure the procedures, records, facilities, and equipment—as well as the staff's qualifications, competency, and safety—are maintained to the highest level of standards, while also sharing best practices.

“Looking ahead, we will continue to deliver on our mission to provide the highest quality care to our patients and will leverage this achievement to foster collaborations and further centralize our lab functions,” said Dr. Attia. “Ultimately partnering with the CAP will enable us to set new benchmarks within the Egyptian healthcare landscape.”
