College of American Pathologists Inaugurates Kalisha Ashara Hill, MD, MBA, FCAP, to a Second Term on the Board of Governors

CHICAGO, Ill–Kalisha Ashara Hill, MD, MBA, FCAP, was re-elected and subsequently inaugurated as a governor of the board of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) at the organization’s annual meeting in Chicago on October 7th.

This is Dr. Hill’s second term as a governor. “I strive to increase the visibility of the value of pathologists for increased reimbursements, increase retention and recruitment into our specialty and increase CAP involvement for members,” shared Dr. Hill. “We must engage our clinical colleagues and attract the next generation of physicians into our specialty by increasing our visibility and providing a transparent pathway for professional growth to prepare future members to serve the CAP.”

Founded in 1946, the CAP is the world's largest organization of board-certified pathologists, physicians who specialize in diagnostic pathology and laboratory medicine. Not only is the CAP the leading provider of laboratory accreditation, but for 75 years the organization has also been the leading provider of proficiency testing programs.

Experience in Advocacy, Leadership Roles

Dr. Hill has previously served on the board as well as various CAP committees, councils, and task forces. Her current involvement includes chair of the CAP Political Action Committee (PathPAC) and Pathologist Pipeline Project Team, as well as serving as a member of the Council on Government and Professional Affairs, Council on Membership and Professional Development, Audit Committee, and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI) Committee.

Dr. Hill’s success in pathology is shown throughout her career and through the many honors and awards she has received. In 2022, she was awarded the Trailblazer Award for Youth Empowerment and Mentorship from the Pearl Foundation. She was also awarded Physician of the year at Ascension Saint Mary Kankakee in 2020 and Outstanding Medical Practitioner from Harlem Fine Arts Show in 2017.

Dr. Hill completed her residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and is board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. She received her medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago and Her master’s in business administration (MBA) in Health Management from Western Governors University. She is currently a Regional Chief Medical Officer within Ascension Illinois and is Medical Director of Pathology and Laboratory Services at Saint Mary Kankakee.
