College of American Pathologists Inaugurates Brad S. Karon, MD, PhD, FCAP, as a Governor of the Board

CHICAGO, Ill– Brad S. Karon, MD, PhD, FCAP, was inaugurated as a governor of the board of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) at the organization’s annual meeting in Chicago on October 7th. This is Dr. Karon’s second term on the Board of Governors.

“Being reelected as a governor of the board, I plan to prioritize advocacy efforts around reimbursement for pathology services and laboratory testing,” said Dr. Karon. “I also plan to ensure that the CAP proficiency testing program continues to be a leader in innovation and value for both domestic and international laboratories and engage residents and Fellows in laboratory inspections and encourage junior committee members to transition to CAP and committee membership.”

The CAP, founded in 1946, is the world's largest organization of board-certified pathologists, physicians who specialize in diagnostic pathology and laboratory medicine, and leading provider of laboratory accreditation and, for 75 years, the leading provider of proficiency testing programs.

Experience Includes Various CAP Leadership Roles

Dr. Karon has previously served on the board as well as various CAP committees, councils, and task forces. His current involvement includes chair of the Council on Scientific Affairs and a member of the Executive Committee, Council on Accreditation, and Finance Committee. In the past he served as the chair of the Continuous Compliance Committee and the vice chair of the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation and Council on Education.

Dr. Karon received his medical degree and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minnesota and completed his residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital at Washington University in Clinical Pathology. Currently, he is affiliated with Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota; where he serves as the chair of the Division of Clinical Core Laboratory Services and Dean of the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences.
