College of American Pathologists Inaugurates A. Joe Saad MD, CPE, FCAP as a Governor of the Board

CHICAGO, Ill– A. Joe Saad, MD, CPE, FCAP, was inaugurated as a governor of the board with the College of American Pathologists at the organization’s annual meeting in Chicago on October 7th. This is Dr. Saad’s second term as a CAP governor.

“Being reelected as a governor of the board is a huge honor and I hope to continue to strengthen and advance our profession,” shared Dr. Saad. “The CAP is an important part of my professional life and a community of colleagues and friends. I plan to Increase the visibility and stature of pathologists with legislators, regulators, payers, and advocate for patients.”

The CAP, founded in 1946, is the world's largest organization of board-certified pathologists, physicians who specialize in diagnostic pathology and laboratory medicine, and leading provider of laboratory accreditation and, for 75 years, the leading provider of proficiency testing programs.

Pathologist Leader in Advocacy & Accreditation

Dr. Saad has previously served on the board as well as various CAP committees, councils, and task forces. Most recently, he serves as the chair of the Audit Committee, vice chair of the Council on Government and Professional Affairs,the Board of Governors, Council on Accreditation, and International Accreditation Committee. In the past, he served as the chair of the Federal and State Affairs Committee (FSAC) and the chair of the Federal Legislation Subcommittee.

Dr. Saad’s success in pathology is shown throughout his career and through the many honors and awards he has received. Most recently, in 2017, he received the Texas Society of Pathologists Caldwell Award and in 2018, the CAP Public Service Award.

Dr. Saad received his medical degree from American University in Beirut, Lebanon, and is a Certified Physician Executive (CPE) from American Association for Physician Leadership. He completed a research fellowship at West Roxbury Veterans Administration Hospital in cardiothoracic surgery and an internship at Union Memorial Hospital in General Surgery. He completed his residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in anatomic and clinical pathology and a fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Cytopathology. Currently, he is affiliated with Methodist Health System, Methodist Dallas Medical Center, University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Laboratory Physicians Association in Dallas, Texas, Prism Pathology in Dallas, Texas and Surgical Pathologists of Dallas.
