NORTHFIELD, Ill.-- A multidisciplinary CAP team received a $1 million contract from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The $1 million contract is intended to develop and improve laboratory test coding standardization and usability to improve public health and patient care. The contract term is for at least one year, and it could expand to up to three years and additional funding.

The FDA contract aligns with the CAP’s proposal to deliver two primary objectives:

  • Develop a strategic design to determine the accuracy and promote transparency of laboratory encoded test data.

“We’ll begin the process of putting work into motion in October through various planning, resourcing, and other project management activities,” said Jim Huguelet, senior manager, ERP Program Manager. “Then we’ll formally kick off the project with the FDA and our other ecosystem partners.”

In addition, the award provides the option (but not the requirement) for the FDA to fund the CAP with up to an additional $2.5 million for up to three additional CAP-proposed objectives:

  • Laboratory Coding Transmission Feasibility Proof-of-Concept
  • Test Menu Coding Education & Training Proof-of-Concept
