NORTHFIELD, Ill. (August 7, 2025) — The College of American Pathologists (CAP) announced today that Chief Executive Officer Michael Fraser, PhD, MS, CAE, will step down to pursue an opportunity with another large physician organization effective October 27, 2025.
CAP Board President Donald S. Karcher, MD, FCAP, made the announcement in emails sent to CAP members and staff this morning.
“During his tenure, Mike has provided outstanding leadership, and his strategic approach has helped advance the CAP and the field of pathology,” Dr. Karcher said.
“We appreciate his dedication and significant contributions to our mission and growth, as well as his commitment to you, our members, and your vitally important role in patient health,” he added.
The CAP board intends to name an interim CEO in the coming weeks and will begin the search for a permanent replacement, Dr. Karcher wrote.
“The Board is confident in the opportunities that await the CAP, and we look forward to a bright future,” he concluded.
