CAP Unveils New Report to Aid IVD Companies with Customer Insights

NORTHFIELD, Ill. (November 12, 2024)— The College of American Pathologists (CAP), has introduced a new Proficiency Testing (PT) report for in vitro diagnostics (IVD) companies to help them better understand their customers’ needs.

The Proficiency Testing Report for Manufacturers, a new solution designed specifically for IVD companies whose instruments are utilized in the CAP's comprehensive range of PT/External Quality Assessment (EQA) programs, provides aggregated insights that allow IVD companies to:

  • better align their strategies with the evolving needs of laboratory customers;
  • make more informed decisions using insights related to CAP PT/EQA participation;
  • increase efficiency through reduced time spent analyzing data;
  • stay current on instruments newly reported in the CAP PT/EQA programs.

In today's fast-paced industry, understanding customers' evolving needs requires up-to-date information. The Proficiency Testing Report for Manufacturers offers a valuable view of the aggregated, global CAP PT/EQA participation landscape, empowering IVD manufacturers to better understand PT utilization of their instruments. The CAP will not share individual laboratory performance or specific laboratory data and will instead focus on aggregated insights that help manufacturers support customer satisfaction and provide relevant guidance.

“This new tool aligns closely with the CAP's commitment to advancing excellence in laboratory medicine. By offering manufacturers aggregated insights into CAP PT/EQA participation, the CAP is fostering innovation and quality improvement throughout the diagnostic testing ecosystem,” shares Bobbi Pritt, MD, MS, FCAP, chair of the Council on Scientific Affairs.

The report is delivered each May and December and includes global enrollment for each specific IVD company. It includes both an insights overview as well as a detailed spreadsheet so that companies can dig into the details to answer questions relevant to their business.

“This initiative not only supports IVD companies in their product development and support strategies but also benefits laboratories and patients by encouraging the creation of more effective and efficient diagnostic tools,” explains Dr. Pritt. “As such, this new report represents a significant step in CAP's ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and effectiveness of laboratory medicine on a global scale.”
