Release Date: 31 Mar 2021

The multiple acts of violence and continued bigotry targeting the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities here in the United States are shameful. They are intolerable. The College of American Pathologists denounces the scapegoating of Asians for any reason including misguided connections to COVID-19.

To our Asian colleagues, we understand that this is a painful experience for you. Know that you have our support and that we stand in solidarity with you.

I am, yet again, saddened to find the need to write this. I understand there's a long history of bigotry against the Asian community in America. As a college administrator, my father helped eliminate bias and expand opportunities for marginalized groups in higher education. He taught me throughout his professional and personal life what it means to stand up against hate and stand up for marginalized communities.

We must continue to work to be agents of change in rooting out racism and bigotry. The CAP believes that acts of violence and hate against any one group are acts of violence and hate against us all.

We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

We are committed to mutual respect, listening, and understanding.

We are the CAP, and we stand with our members and our patients. Let's continue to work toward positive change while supporting and lifting our Asian American and Pacific Islander communities.
