NORTHFIELD, Ill. (August 8, 2024) — The College of American Pathologists (CAP) has been nationally recognized by the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) with three awards for its groundbreaking Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) initiatives. This marks the first time the CAP’s DE&I efforts have been celebrated on a national stage, with each initiative earning a Silver Award.
"These awards demonstrates our staff and member commitment to progress on our vital DE&I journey," said CAP CEO Michael Fraser, PhD, MS, CAE, FCPP. “The Silver Awards are an honor and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team. They highlight the critical importance we place on assuring that all our staff feel welcome and a part of the CAP. Our DE&I work helps us stay relevant, strong, and well prepared to lead in the future.”
The awards were given for the following DE&I: Cultivating Inclusive Excellence initiatives:
- Inclusive Leadership Program
- Launched in 2023, this program equips leaders with skills to foster inclusivity, one team and leader at a time. As of June 2024, 71 percent of managers have completed the program, placing the CAP within early reach of a 2024 Key Performance Indicator (KPI) goal. Since launching Inclusive Leadership, CAP has seen boosted engagement and mobility among underrepresented talent.
- CAP Mentorship Program
- The CAP Mentorship Program has exceeded expectations by doubling its initial target and ensuring every mentee has a mentor. With 33 percent of the Extended Leadership Team and five members of the Executive Leadership Suite participating, CAP demonstrates a strong commitment to professional development.
- CAP Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
- Since 2022, CAP has established eight ERGs focusing on culture, community, commerce, and careers. These ERGs drive initiatives like fundraising and volunteerism, cultural awareness and education, and professional development, emphasizing intersectionality and allyship among CAP’s 750 employees.
“We launched our DE&I initiatives just two years ago, so receiving this level of recognition so early is incredibly encouraging,” said Terri Dickinson-Creasey, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. “It demonstrates that we are making meaningful strides in creating a more inclusive and equitable environment. I recognize the work of all our staff in assuring a welcoming, safe, and inclusive workplace for all and the support of our members in supporting this work with us.”
These accolades from ASAE underscore CAP’s pioneering efforts in DE&I and its steadfast dedication to driving meaningful change within the organization. The CAP is dedicated to continuing this important work and sharing its successful models with other organizations.
