CAP Introduces Mpox Proficiency Testing Program

Release Date: 23 Mar 2023
Mpox

NORTHFIELD, Ill., Mar. 23, 2023—The College of American Pathologists (CAP), has introduced a new monkeypox (mpox) virus proficiency testing (PT) program for laboratories within the United States that will ship to customers in early summer.

The new mpox PT program will allow laboratories to add a level of quality assurance to molecular testing to ensure laboratories deliver accurate, reliable test results to detect mpox virus. Built upon a foundation of pathologist expertise, this program enables laboratories to achieve high standards of performance. It is the latest addition to the CAP’s comprehensive range of more than 700 programs across 16 disciplines developed by expert scientific committees. As laboratory medicine changes and adapts, so does the CAP, by continuing to support laboratories with new PT offerings that work across multiple platforms and across multiple methodologies.

CAP PT programs provide accurate and reliable test results. They draw some of the largest peer groups in the industry, enabling laboratories to compare their performance against a statistically significant data set.
