NORTHFIELD, IL (Oct. 13, 2025) — College of American Pathologists (CAP) President Qihui “Jim” Zhai, MD, FCAP, announced today that Akshay Patel will serve as Interim Chief Executive Officer beginning October 28.
Mr. Patel currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the CAP. He brings to the organization extensive knowledge of and experience with our membership and laboratory quality programs, as well as our finance and information systems. In the coming weeks, he will work closely with outgoing CEO Michael Fraser, PhD, to ensure a smooth transition.
“The CAP Officers and Board of Governors have full confidence in Akshay’s leadership and his ability to advance our mission,” Dr. Zhai said. “The Board also wishes to express the same confidence and trust in our current executive operations team who together will assist in this transition process.
