Cancer Data Summit Advances Patient Care at CAP25

Orlando, Fla. (September 12, 2025) – Cancer research generates a large volume of data, yet much of this information is siloed and inaccessible across care settings. At the third annual Future of Cancer Data Summit: Advancing Innovation, Enhancing Patient Care, experts in pathology, oncology, surgery and data science convened to shape how cancer data will drive advances in research, care delivery, and patient outcomes in the years ahead.

“Every cancer treatment story begins with a pathology diagnosis,” shared M.E. de Baca, MD, FCAP, chair of the CAP Council on Informatics and Pathology Innovation. “With interoperable and accessible pathology data, personalized care, accelerate research discoveries, and improved population health outcomes are unlocked at a global scale.”

Summit Themes and Insights:

  • Impact on Patients: Keynote speaker Amanda Haddock, President of the Dragon Master Initiative, shared how molecular pathology shaped her son’s treatment journey, reminding attendees that behind every dataset is a patient and a family hoping for answers.
  • Interoperability for Cancer Reporting and Care: Experts highlighted initiatives such as USCDI+Cancer, which aims to standardize how cancer data is captured and exchanged nationwide. This work will ensure that data generated in pathology reports flows seamlessly into cancer registries, clinical systems, and research networks.
  • Improving Patient Outcomes: Sessions explored how structured pathology reports and CAP’s electronic Cancer Protocols (eCPs) provide clinicians with actionable insights, directly influencing treatment decisions and improving patient outcomes.
  • Bringing AI to Life Across the Spectrum of Health Care: How clinicians are already using AI to transform health care—spanning diagnostics, prognostics, treatment prediction, and companion diagnostics—and how these innovations are affecting everyday practice today.

The Summit signals a transformative moment, elevating the opportunity to better integrate pathology data unlocking new possibilities for innovation and impact. Advancing the roadmap that connects laboratories, hospitals, registries, and technology partners to create a unified data ecosystem will be crucial to evolving patient care and improving diagnostic outcomes.
