Release Date: 14 Sep 2025
Pathologist of the Year Award

College of American Pathologists honors 26 members and residents at CAP25 Annual Meeting.

Orlando, Fla. (September 14, 2025)— Eric F. Glassy, MD, FCAP, was honored with the 2025 Pathologist of the Year Award at the College of American Pathologists’ (CAP) annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, recognizing his insightful leadership and distinguished legacy of service.

An exceptional diagnostician with expertise in hematopathology, Dr. Glassy has held influential leadership roles at every level of pathology, spanning national and international medical organizations and forums. A respected educator, he has delivered lectures, seminars, and workshops worldwide, authored more than 50 peer-reviewed articles, served on multiple editorial boards, and designed, written, edited, and illustrated six textbooks in the Color Atlas series, many published by the CAP.

For nearly three decades, Dr. Glassy has been a deeply engaged leader within the CAP, culminating in his election to the Board of Governors in 2015-2022. His service includes numerous committees, and he currently serves on the Council on Informatics and Pathology Innovation, where he was instrumental in forming the Information Technology Leadership Committee.

His leadership extends beyond the CAP, including serving as president of the Digital Pathology Association and being named a life trustee of the American Board of Pathology. He has also contributed his expertise to the boards of several industry partners.

“The CAP has been my professional home, and this recognition is more about the colleagues and mentors who have inspired me than it is about my own work,” shared Dr. Glassy. “This award is deeply meaningful to me because it comes from peers I greatly respect. Personally, it affirms the values that have guided me throughout my career — curiosity, collaboration, and commitment to patients that goes far beyond the microscope. Professionally, it’s a reminder that pathology is not a behind-the-scenes specialty, but the linchpin of modern medicine.”

Known for his hardworking and approachable style, Dr. Glassy has mentored and guided countless CAP members and trainees, generously sharing his time and expertise to support their professional growth. His enduring contributions to the CAP and the profession embody the highest standards of what a pathologist can achieve.

The CAP also recognized several of its members for their outstanding contributions to pathology and laboratory medicine during its annual meeting.
